Abstract
Maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy is responsible for negative health outcomes. The literature shows that socio-economic and lifestyle factors are both related with alcohol consumption during pregnancy; nevertheless, the role of other factors is unclear. The objective of this study is to assess the role that partners’ alcohol consumption plays, that played by accessibility to alcohol, and by social influence – when considering pregnant women’s behaviour as regards alcohol. It presents the results from a follow-up study of children at risk of negative health outcomes associated with prenatal alcohol exposure; it shows that 68% of pregnant women included in the study reported alcohol consumption during early pregnancy. Results of the analysis showed association with partners’ alcohol use, with density of bars and\/or restaurants and with the number of pregnant women who drank in the neighbourhood. We concluded that the involvement of men in pregnancy healthcare, and urban policies which target the built environment and improve social networks could be important aspects for the control and prevention alcohol consumption during pregnancy in public health programs. Interventions and recommendations should include an ecological perspective on prenatal community-health programs – focusing on individual, social, and natural factors as well as the built environment.<\/p>

\u00bfQue quer\u00edamos estudiar? <\/strong>
El alcohol es el mayor t\u00f3xico para el cerebro en desarrollo al que est\u00e1n expuestos los ni\u00f1os\/as antes de nacer. Sabemos que no hay un nivel de bebida sin efecto. Por eso estudiar los factores de la ‘bebedora social’ parece necesario. Queremos estudiar el papel de la pareja y de las influencias sociales del vecindario y la accesibilidad a bares\/restaurantes.<\/p>

\u00bfQu\u00e9 hemos realizado en la investigaci\u00f3n? <\/strong>
Hemos realizado un trabajo cient\u00edfico con casi 1800 parejas embarazadas de la ciudad de Murcia al inicio del embarazo. Se les ha realizado un cribado ambiental que incluye aspectos del entorno de la pareja, estilos de vida y medioambiente. Esta herramienta se llama hoja verde.
Y adem\u00e1s hemos estudio espacialmente donde viven y como se interrelacionan las conductas de consumir alcohol entre otras vecinas del barrio embarazadas y con el n\u00famero de bares o restaurantes que hay alrededor de cada embarazada.<\/p>

\u00bfQue resultados muestran?<\/strong>
– A pesar de las recomendaciones muchas mujeres consumen algo de alcohol al inicio del embarazo,, 2\/3 de las mujeres embarazas en los a\u00f1os del estudio.
– El perfil de la mujer bebedora social (toma algo de alcohol) embarazada es una mujer de con estudios medios-altos y que trabaja fuera de casa
– El rol de la pareja es muy importante. Si el bebe ella bebe. Es un factor clave.
– Si las vecinas embarazadas de su barrio beben, la embarazada tiene m\u00e1s riesgo de beber. Es lo que podr\u00edamos llamar ‘efecto vecina’
– El riesgo de beber la embarazada se asocia a la densidad de bares restaurante en el barrio en el que ella vive.<\/p>

\u00bfQue quieren decir estos resultados?<\/strong>
Considerar un abordaje mas ecosist\u00e9mico en los programas de prevenci\u00f3n de alcohol y de salud reproductiva considerando el papel de la pareja (el embarazo es cosa de dos) y del ambiente construido y redes sociales de barrio (pol\u00edtica municipal) permitir\u00eda mejorar los resultados en la prevenci\u00f3n del alcohol y sus efectos.<\/p>
